It has been projected that the
number of AIDS orphans, globally, could
reach 25 million by the year 2010. The majority of these children are
in southern Africa. Our co-founders have seen, experienced and kept
learning more about the
positive effect of quality programs to address
the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa and other
countries of Southern Africa. We often say,
“We’re doing this because we’ve been there.”
In 2007, "Mothering Across Continents" raised $44,000 for three
specially-designated projects in South Africa supported by 501c3
organizaitons South Africa Development Fund (SADF) and Save the
Children. The 2008 goal is to raise $100,000, as well as continue to
gather an energrize local women who want to cast light on a global
issue, collectively demonstrate care and compassion of AIDS orphans and
vulnerable children and build a model for other groups and cities to
use to have impact throughout the world. It’s
the spirit of what author Jean Shinoda
Bolen calls, “Gather the
Women; Save the World.”
Funds raised
in 2008 will be distributed equally to projects in South Africa
supported by Save the Children entities and the South Africa
Development Fund (SADF). Events-driven
information, dialogue and discussion will give women a sense of
having an “up close” understanding of the needs of
orphans and vulnerable children affected by AIDS.
